With enormous thanks to (now, let me get this right) Ruth Rayner, Sue Miller, Ross & Katie, 5 dogs, 1 cat, 2 (nee 4) chickens, 2 ponies, and, not forgetting, Mr’s Steggles and Miller.
It is mine and Mr. H’s wedding anniversary today, and as a treat we went off for the weekend, courtesy of our dear friends mentioed above, to a spiffy Hotel, a most generous, and greatly appreciated, gift. Mr & Mrs H Senior considered it ‘a privilege’ to look after the little H’s whilst we were away (nutters, I swear!)
First stop was Bannatynes Health Club in Norwich (thanks Debs & Co) for a gym session, spa, swedish massage and a spot of lunch. Fab. Onto Lavenham.
A picturesque little town in Suffolk, full of charm and character, boutique-y shops, restaurants, fabulous property (lots of wonky buildings) and, lest we forget, pubs.
The Swan Hotel is a gorgeous building, dating back to who knows when.
Very upmarket, very quirky.
Feature rich,as is Lavenham in general. The patrons being of a fairly specific age group and Council Tax Band. The Hotel has lots of hallways, lounges, nooks and crannies for guests to enjoy a drink or light bite.
A beautiful restaurant and lovely courtyards, a great venue for weddings and weekenders alike.
We were lucky enough to have a fabulous suite, upgraded for our anniversary. Can’t knock that. (http://www.theswanatlavenham.co.uk)
We ventured out and right on the doorstep we found ‘The Number Ten’ – a wine bar and kitchen (https://www.facebook.com/tenlavenham).
A lovely, intimate bar with rustic, yet innovative, design.
Drinks were good and the food smelled great. The landlady was really friendly and stopped for a chat, even though she was preparing for a large party there in the evening.
I think it was my favourite stop of the day.We stopped at a number of other places, The Angel, The Cock and The Greyhound before dinner at The Memsab.
A fantastic day, an equally fab evening and back to the Swan for a nightcap.
Happy Anniversary Mr H
